Growing up blue.
Long before Blue by Carey existed, the ocean was already a big part of Bec’s world.
Growing up in Port Victoria on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula, weekends were spent fishing, snorkelling, freediving and exploring the coastline with her family. It was here, on the Great Southern Reef, that her curiosity for the marine world first began.
At twelve, a trip to the Great Barrier Reef turned that curiosity into something deeper. Swimming alongside a turtle with her mum, Bec remembers realising just how connected she felt to the ocean — and how much she wanted to protect it.
What started as a childhood spent by the sea eventually became a career dedicated to understanding it, communicating it and helping others fall in love with it too.
